If you know anything about me, then you already know that many years ago, I pledged my allegiance to King James. He is not only a great athlete, he is also an outstanding citizen, a caring philanthropist, and a very successful entrepreneur.
Finally, he was joining the Lakers. Oh, happy day! I could barely contain myself. The King was finally coming. Last season, he led his team, the Cleveland Cavaliers to a championship victory over the powerful Boston Celtics. In my opinion, the Celtics had a better team, but the incredible Mr. James willed his team to a difficult victory.
It usually takes at least three proven stars on a team, before it can win Championships. Regrettably, for King James, the Lakers did not have any proven talent on the team. In addition, they chose Luke Walton to coach the team, thus rejecting Tyrone Lue, who had led them to a championship, the previous year.
After all, Luke had played for the Lakers, or at least he was on the team. While he was not a great player, he was a nice man, and everyone liked him.
So, the season started somewhat promisingly, but due to a lack of experienced players, and some injuries, the season was a disaster. So, while things were very bad, an injury to LeBron made them even worse. Magic Johnson then used all of his persuasiveness to convince LeBron to join the Lakers. Magic is the eternal optimist, and he was determined to bring enough talent, so that the Lakers could begin winning championships again.
He assumed that Jeannie Buss would be making the decisions that they would need for the team to become winners. However, he discovered that the team is being run by what appears to be a group of family members, and employees. It had been six years since this group led the Lakers and to their previous NBA Playoffs.
However, this lack of success did not affect their own self-esteem. So, according to information that I have received, they had to approve all of the important decisions.
After many trials and errors, the Lakers now have signed contracts with LeBron James and Anthony Davis. That is a great start, but they need at least one more outstanding player, if they hope to compete for a championship.
The Lakers mortgaged their future by sending most of their talented young players to New Orleans, in order to complete the trade for Davis. This seemed to be a very straightforward deal that they had completed. However, to their shock and disappointment, there are some contingencies which have to be met, or the team may lose draft rights for one more player. You may be wondering how this could happen, and so am I. At this point, we can only hope that LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and someone else will manage to get the Lakers into next year’s NBA Playoffs.
