Like many of you, I promised myself that I would not watch Tiger Woods play golf last Sunday. I was pleased to note that he had played well all week and that he looked absolutely great. I also knew that he would be wearing his Sunday Red Shirt, and that he would be on the prowl.
However, he was not in the Lead, and there were 10 other golfers who also had a good chance to win. So, I thought that I would just glance at the television for a moment and then get on with my day. However, once I tuned in, I became just another Junkie, and I was unable to stop watching.
I saw an absolutely confident Tiger, and he was totally focused on what he was doing. The balls absolutely followed his instructions, and they went where he wanted them to go. They seemed to know that they had been propelled by Tiger Woods.
After he had won, he was able to release his emotions by hugging, first his son, and then his mother. It brought back memories of Tiger hugging his father, 22 years ago, after he had won his first Green Jacket.
I thought that Tiger had given me enough thrills for the entire month, but I was wrong. I found that out when I tuned to watch the dreaded Golden State Warriors destroy our courageous, young Clippers.
The Clippers have an extremely talented young team. I did not expect that they would go quietly into the night, but I did feel that the Warriors are still the best basketball team in the NBA. Their head coach is the legendary Doc Rivers, and he had promised that his team would fight hard. It is what he should have said, since that is what all coaches do.
However, there has never been a basketball team with the consistent firepower of the Golden State Warriors. Steph Curry had been waiting to feast on these young Clippers. They fully expected to sweep this Series, and then to relax until the next victim showed up.
However, at least on Monday night, the young Clippers did not get the message. Oh sure, they were behind by 31 points. That always means that it is over, and it usually is, but not this time. The Clippers fought back and won the game by a score of 135 two 131.
The angry Warriors will be at Staples Center, on Thursday night. They have revenge on their minds. They are still favored to win this Series, but if they do, they will have to sweat to earn it. They also know that the future Clippers will be a force to be reckoned with.
Magic Johnson has been one of my favorite people for many, many years. He was not only a Championship basketball player, but he is also a wonderful human being. When he was playing basketball for the Lakers, he also held a major charity event every year. He has worked tirelessly for many good causes, and he is always available to lend a helping hand.
However, many great athletes like Magic and Michael Jordan do not fully understand their uniqueness. When it came to playing basketball, they were both exceptionally talented. I have always had the impression that they feel that anyone who works really hard, can play as well as they did. However, in that regard, they are wrong. So, they get frustrated when members of their Teams do not play up to their expectations. Those are the reasons that most great athletes are not successful as coaches, or owners.
Let the Spirit of Nipsey Hussle be with you.
