College Degrees Directly Impact Lifelong Income
A College Degree is increasingly more valuable because a High School diploma becomes less relevant each year. The lifelong income discrepancy between those that have a college degree versus those that don’t only continues to grow, yet the cost of gaining this necessary education is increasing at a pace faster than inflation. In order to help make a difference, the Pasadena Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. has awarded over $300,000 in Scholarships and Book Awards to college bound students in the San Gabriel Valley since its inception in 1960.
The 31st Annual Scholarship Fashionetta Luncheon will be held at the Glendale Hilton from 10 AM – 2 PM on Saturday, May 11, 2019. At this annual fundraising event, 12 Scholarships will be awarded to college bound students from the Pasadena/ Altadena/ San Gabriel Valley area.
Students have on-going let us know how important these funds have been to help them pay tuition, buy books, pay for housing or transportation. At a time when students are graduating from school so in debt that they can’t afford to pay rent because of their school loans, it is critical for them to be awarded as many scholarships as possible. Over the last 20 years, the cost of tuition has increased by 2-3 times across Private and Public Schools.
With an education being a must for lifelong success, it is critical that we help the students from our community get the monies they need to be successful.
Scholarships will be awarded in the areas of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math), Social Justice/ Economic Development and Young African American Male. Each of the awardees is impressive and come from schools in the San Gabriel Valley. If you want your heart to be filled with joy as you hear the amazing stories of our young adults, come out to the 31st Annual Scholarship Fashionetta Luncheon.
