So far, we’ve had about a week of Coco, and that is not nearly enough. This wonderful young lady, who is just 15 years old, went to Wimbledon and stole our hearts. She did it with her talent on the tennis court, the courteous way that she conducts herself and with her joyous smile.
She did not know that no one can do what she just did. She defeated the legendary Venus Williams on on Centre Court. While Venus is not what she once was, playing against her is not a walk in the park.
She then survived a tough match against Polana Hercog, a tough competitor who has more than 100 victories. She almost lost that match but resolved to pull it out, and she did.
She had to play former No. 1 Simona Halep. Winning over her was not possible, but they are likely to meet later on. In the meantime, Coco returns to Florida with about $300,000.00 for her efforts. She was asked if she was going to buy a car. She said, “I am only 15 years old and I do not have a drivers license yet.”
Coco, is a gift to us from the Williams Sisters. She mentioned that she became interested in tennis because they inspired her to do so. Watching her match against Venus was somewhat unworldly, because of the similarities in their appearances. Now comes the good stuff. The commercials will start. The cash rolling in. She will be 16 soon, so please drive carefully.
I was 99% certain that Kawhi Leonard would return to Los Angeles. I also knew that the fans in Toronto had showered him with so much love, that it would not be easy for him to leave. However, I knew something that made me strongly believe that he would come home to Los Angeles. He was born here and he grew up in Southern California, an area with the best weather in the world.
I lived for a year in Syracuse, and my daughter Carol was born there. It is a beautiful city with kind and gracious people, but it gets awfully cold there. So my wife and baby daughter would have to stay inside most of the time. So, spending the winters in Syracuse or Toronto is like spending them in a prison. I fl ed from there to come back to California and so did Kawhi.
Assuming that he was coming home to California, I absolutely knew that he would sign with the Clippers. Many of the fans thought that if he did return, that he would sign with the legendary Lakers, but they have not followed the career of Kawhi, as I have
He is a quiet and dignified athlete. He does his best to avoid turbulence of any kind. He respects others and he demands respect for himself. Greg Popovich, his head coach, when Kawhi was playing for the San Antonio Spurs somehow insulted Kawhi, and that put a permanent end to their relationship.
Kawhi is comfortable working with reliable, dedicated professionals, who take their job seriously. So, in my opinion, that ruled out the legendary Lakers, although I believe that he and King James would have enjoyed playing together. That would have been exciting!
