“Hidden Histories of Altadena: Community Conversation & Ice Cream Social” is co-hosted by Altadena Town Council, Altadena Library District, and Altadena Historical Society on Sunday, August 25, 2:30-5:00 p.m. at Bob Lucas Branch Library. Come enjoy free ice cream, activities, resources, and discover stories you never knew about Altadena through oral histories from long-time residents.
More looking ahead. On September 7th and 8th Friends of the Altadena Library (FOAL) will have a HUGE 2-day book sale in the main library’s parking lot. Their entire stock of ﬁction and non-ﬁction books will be out for 50c a book (25c for children’s and YA), as well as DVDs for $1, CDs for 25c, vinyl records for $1, plus curios, furniture and more. On Saturday, FOAL members will enjoy free entry to a pre-sale from 10a.m.-noon. Non-members can join on the door for $10. Then the sale will be open to everyone from noon-5 p.m. on Saturday and 11a.m.-4p.m. on Sunday. Children’s and YA books will be FREE to teachers all day Sunday.
Water LA is retrofitting communities throughout Los Angeles, including Altadena, to have various water catchment systems such as inﬁltration basins, grey water systems, rain tanks, rain grading, inﬁltration trenches, permeable paving, and edible native gardens. They are presently in Altadena retroﬁtting 32 homes with different water catchment strategies including turf removal, soil building and rain grading. Next they’ll be doing native planting.
