On June 30, Noise Within (ANW), California’s acclaimed classic repertory theatre company, hosted a Meet & Greet Tea with 50 African American leaders from Pasadena and the Los Angeles community. Guests had the opportunity to mingle and discuss their roles at their various education and community service organizations.
The event was catered by Bristol Farms, which provided tea sandwiches, fresh fruit tarts, and handcrafted iced teas. In an event that culminated on ANW’s Redmond Stage, LA Director Gregg T. Daniel announced that he will be directing the first play in Pulitzer Prize winner August Wilson’s celebrated American Century Cycle, Gem of the Ocean, which begins previews Sept. 22.
The second production in ANW’s 2019-2020 season, Gem of the Ocean is a soaring, mystical tale of a man desperate for redemption in 1904 Pittsburgh. Aunt Ester, a 285-year-old “soul cleanser,” sends him on a spiritual journey that dissects the nature of freedom amidst oppression and spurs him to take up the mantle of justice.
