John Fitzgerald Kennedy’s famous words, “Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what can you do for your country.”
Those words serve as a background and base for Democratic America’s liberal agenda. If I could talk to Donald Trump, I would ask him “Why do you want to make poor people’s lives miserable?” By the way I have no desire to talk to Donald Trump because, unlike John Kennedy, Trump is a dishonest, trash talking billionaire with no feelings for the people.
This month, Barack Obama was presented with the John Fitzgerald Kennedy “Profile in Courage Award”. Trump seems to hate Barack Obama so much that he is still peddling the lie Obama was born in Kenya and not really a Black American. Ironically, many of us love America’s first Black President. Donald Trump looks at Barack Obama, a Harvard Law School Graduate, and all that he has accomplished, and sees a thing that is less than him. I really don’t want to spend time analyzing Trump because when he placed Alabama Senator Jeff Sessions as Attorney General, he told me all that I need to know.
And then when you couple the appointment of Jeff Sessions with the subtle racist message to “Make America great again”, there you go! To me it means “Make America White again.” The problem is that today when you make “America Great Again” according to them, you hurt some people that are not White. However, when you do away with the Affordable Health Care law in favor of “Trumpcare”, you also hurt White people with pre-existing conditions like cancer, diabetes, women’s health care issues, and thousands of other health related problems.
When the world watched the victory party with Trump surrounded by his pack of White Congressmen after their health care bill, you should see that the statement about making America great again easily translates to making America White again.
It’s funny to see a bunch of White men boarding a bus to go to party about taking the rights of people who are not as rich as they are. These are the same people who hated to see Black and Brown kids get on buses to go to integrated America’s schools a few years back. Now they voluntarily and cheerfully get on a bus to celebrate the destruction of health care for those who are less fortunate than they are.
With limited funds, the Republicans are busy trying to figure out a way to take the savings in throwing out Obama Care and building a wall to keep people from Mexico out of America. I wonder why they can’t figure out a way to improve the existing health care program, rather than destroying something. The difference is that this health care plan was created by a Black president.
America was proud of choosing a Black president. This America with its’ history of slavery, Jim Crow and related policies had divorced that past. They were taking down the Confederate flag, getting rid of statutes of confederate generals, and other remnants of the American slave past, and then Donald Trump said we could go back to a time where White was right, Black’s was to get back, Browns could stick around to do the quasi-slave labor that no one else wanted to do.
This celebration of divorce is like so many others, was short lived. Freedom, once experienced, cannot be put back in the jug. You discover that all Blacks don’t have tails. All Browns are not rapists. Chinese people who were brought here to build the railroads, then subjected to a Chinese exclusion act, and Japanese who were put in concentration/internment camps, are hard workers as are most Americans.
To Trump and those who would keep trying to sabotage the Jeffersonian acknowledgement of the principle that all men are created equal may as well give it up. We won’t go back. We believe the edict that all people are created equal. To Trump, your ill gotten wealth gives you no rights that make it right to try to keep other’s down.
