Are You Waiting on God to Play Cupid

Black news from Pasadena - Religion - Waiting for God to play cupidRecently at a house party, I overheard three middle-aged unmarried women talking about their personal challenges to find a good man. The first woman said in a serious tone, "My man now has a part-time job and has voluntarily enrolled himself into rehab." The other two women giggled. The first snapped, "What's so darn funny? At least I have a man!"

One of the women spewed out, "Enrolled in Rehab!?"

The other laughed and said, "That's the second man you had in rehab with a drug problem. You need to wait on the Lord to send you a man."

"Its not for drugs!" the first woman snapped. "It's anger management."

The second woman said, "Anger management, drugs whatever . . . I'm waiting on the Lord like the pastor said."

The third friend, "Amen! Me, too."

A Servant’s Heart a Prophetic Voice

Black news from Pasadena - Religion - Jubilee celebration for Bishop DillardThe congregants of Second Baptist Church, Monrovia, California, residents and elected officials of Monrovia and Duarte will salute Parish Under-Shepherd Bishop Dr. Wm. LaRue Dillard for his 40 year of service to his parish and the community during a grand banquet celebration. The banquet will be on Saturday, March 29 at the Pacific Palms Resort in La Puente and is followed by two jubilee sanctuary worship assembly celebrations on May 18th and 25th, 2014 at 4:00 pm in Monrovia.

Bishop Dillard has led his parish flock to be a positive, influential witness for the cause of the kingdom of God. His aim has been steadfast Bible-centered teaching, preaching His Word, and encouraging application of His Word in the lives of the saints and Jesus' call for unity among the Christian family of faith, unity of effort has been the motif of his bishopric based on (John 17:1-26), the three dimensional prayer of Jesus to His Father.

The Antithetical Nature of Godly Hope in American Society

The LBlack news from Pasadena - Religion - Hope in AmericaORD is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him. (Lamentations 3:24)

Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the LORD. (Psalm 31:24)

Behold, the eye of the LORD is upon them that fear him, upon them that hope in his mercy. (Psalm 33:18)

I wait for the LORD, my soul doth wait, and in his word do I hope. (Psalm 130:5)

The LORD taketh pleasure in them that fear him, in those that hope in his mercy. (Psalm 147:11)

Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is. (Jeremiah 17:7)

Remembering without ceasing your work of faith, and labour of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, in the sight of God and our Father. (1 Thessalonians 1:3)

But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear. (1 Peter 3:15)

Current societal trends raise questions with regard to individual quality of life and deep seated feelings of hopelessness. The evening news reports in most American major urban cities seemingly focus on the most tragic, disparaging, and dispirited stories one can imagine. From a parent dropping an infant child off a balcony apartment complex (New York Daily News, December 23, 2013) to a Florida mother driving her three small children into the crashing waves of the ocean-side currents (CNN, March 9, 2014), or the mysterious and unaccounted for disappearance of the Malaysian commercial jetliner, hopelessness seemingly abound at every turn.
