Sacramento, CA – Assemblymember Cheryl R. Brown (D-San Bernardino) issued the following statement today in response to Governor Jerry Brown's May Revision:
"I look forward to working with my colleagues to review Governor Brown's May Budget Revision proposal. I am very pleased to see that the budget calls for 56 new positions to help the Secretary of State eliminate the backlog and red tape of business filings. This will be very helpful for small businesses to stimulate economic growth and jobs for our region. In addition, I look forward to working with my colleagues to ensure his proposal to reshape the Enterprise Zone Program and the New Jobs Hiring Credit is beneficial for the growth of businesses and jobs in my cities.
I commend Governor Brown for making education a top priority in his budget proposal. I am especially impressed by his sincerity in seeking a solution to equitably fund our schools. In addition, the funding for CalWORKS to implement improved protocols to promote family stabilization and provide enhanced subsidized employment opportunities for recipients will provide a predictable transition to economic independence.
Overall, I am confident that we will have a balanced budget with an adequate rainy day fund by our constitutional deadline of June 15th that will be fiscally responsible, strengthens the middle class, and delivers effective, efficient services for all Californians."
