The Senior Plug

Black news from Pasadena - News - Senior Plug - Information for 55 and older - Camille ForbySeniors, pay attention! I have valuable and important information for all seniors throughout Altadena, Pasadena, and surrounding areas. The New Year will bring a series of informative plugs that will keep you updated on what is happening in the community and how the County of Los Angeles plays a part in making a solid connection.

Community and Senior Services has a new program for seniors 55 years and older that we are very excited about. Community Based Prevention and Early Intervention (CBPEI) is a confidential, short-term counseling program for seniors who are experiencing some of life's inevitable challenges. We have warm and caring professionals who are waiting to assist you with any concerns that may, perhaps, be heavy mentally and emotionally.

If you sometimes feel sad, lonely, are dealing with a life-threatening medical condition or have not really expressed your inner feelings regarding the death of a spouse, loved one or even a family pet, the PEI program may be just what you need. If you are 55 years or older, and have limited health insurance or limited financial resources, please call or come in for more information.

If you or someone you know have been a victim of a possible scam or are facing problems with a caregiver, you may need to contact your local Adult Protective Services (APS) representative. Always look for ways to protect yourself against these predators by asking for referrals, verifying business information, and telling close family members or friends. There are ways to protect yourself and your bank account. Please be aware there are people who target seniors with nothing but deception and trickery in mind. The County of Los Angeles Community and Senior Service Department has an APS representative at the Altadena Senior Center in the event you need to make a report.

The Altadena Senior Center and the Altadena Community Center are working close with local churches, other county agencies, nonprofit organizations, and other senior centers in the surrounding areas on how we can improve the lives of people in our community. We are making a connection through communication. Come and visit me at the Altadena Senior Center; it is a warm and welcoming environment.

My name is Camille Forby and I am the PEI representative here to assist you with the referral process. Call to see if you qualify for the program. I can be reached at the Altadena Senior Center at 626-798-0505 or the Altadena Community Center at 626-398-6174.
