Sports Watching and Wondering

African American news from Pasasdena - Sports - Baseball, basketball, Doc Rivers and moreThe World Series of Baseball starts on Tuesday, October 21, 2014, between the San Francisco Giants and the Kansas City Royals. I may be wrong, but I do not sense a lot of local interest in baseball, since the Dodgers were eliminated. When I was in elementary school, the World Series was the most important event in the world, except for Christmas.

Our teachers understood how important the scores were to us, and they gave us a report every hour between classes. We were simply unable to concentrate on anything except the outcome of the games. In today's world, such anxiety has been eliminated, since you can get an update on the games from your cell phone. Our lives have really changed, haven't they?

This is the third time in three years that the Giants have been in the World Series. This team is something of a mystery to me, since they do not have many stars, except those on their pitching staff. Also it seems to me that the Dodgers have a lot more talent, so it seems to me that they should be the ones who are playing today. A big part of their advantage may be Bruce Bochy, who is acknowledged to be the best manager in baseball.

The Royals have trampled everyone in the American League. They do not seem to have much, but they have run rampant over everyone in their path. They are very aggressive base runners, and that seems to shock their opponents into a state of panic. That will not happen with the Giants. As This is a team with poise and grit. I am picking them to win the series in five games.
