Cyber Life is forever!!!
What you post matters
Wait!!! Before you upload your post let’s take a few moments to think about the world of social media and the impact it has on us today. I understand that social media provides us access to stay in the loop of what is going on around us and allows us to see what is happening in our friends and families lives, but how you manage your social media post really matters. Honestly, I don’t think it’s a sin to utilize social media every day, but I do think making it a necessity in life can be problematic.
I have walked into a room of friends hanging out and observed them on their phones checking post, texting, etc. and not engaging all their natural senses nor making any real conversations or connections. I get that we can find ways to connect with friends through social media, but this medium does not make communicating as personal.
The ways we communicate with each other makes a difference. Giving someone eye contact when speaking to them about something important or being in tune with other people’s body language can help you determine how you should treat them in the situation. We don’t want to misinterpret how one feels in a conversation and with the lack of expressions, body language, and vocal cues we can absolutely think something was said a certain way when it wasn’t. I challenge you all to take some time out of this month to put your phones down and talk to each other even if it feels uncomfortable or awkward.
Not only should we be conscious on how heavily we indulge in social media but we should also take into consideration how social media affects our job opportunities. Employers are frequently checking your social media page and post and they are using this to determine if they would hire you or not. This platform allows them to scope out your character without getting the chance to even meet you personally to know and understand the person that you are. With that in mind you need to handle your social media professionally.
We are all different people and we all do things in our spare time that ever body does not need to know about, so let’s keep what we post private or not post it at all because consequence can occur. For example, I recently heard the most interesting story about an employee who worked at a facility with children but in their spare time participated in a social activity that was not befitting of their position. Now, he or she did not need to share this side of their life with the social media community. Due to the inappropriate post this employee lost their job. So please my young folks think before you post because cyber life is forever!!
