On February 7, 2018, Mentoring & Partnership for Youth Development (MPYD) had the honor of hosting Los Angeles County Fifth District Supervisor Kathryn Barger at our weekly Lunch with the Future meeting.
The meeting was held on the campus of John Muir High School, and was attended by over 65 participants, including staff, students, John Muir faculty, and local press. MPYD has been a longtime community partner working in collaboration with Supervisor Barger’s office to support youth empowerments programs for young men attending John Muir High School and surrounding areas.
During Supervisor Barger’s one-hour visit, the young men of MPYD gathered great insight, wisdom, and knowledge from the supervisor, who motivated and encouraged the importance of “thinking big and acting big when pursuing their dreams.” Many the young men were delighted and thankful for receiving thoughtful insight and individual praise from Supervisor Barger.
Supervisor Barger expressed the importance of MPYD and the thousands of young men that have changed and reshaped their lives through the superior mentoring assistance provided by the program and its staff members. Also, Supervisor Barger emphasized to the students that they should “seize the moment and that no job is too big.” She wanted the students to “find their passion” and pursue their goals. John Muir Principal Dr. Lawton Gray took a moment to acknowledge and thank Supervisor Barger for all of her support for John Muir High School and MPYD throughout the years.
MPYD would like to thank Supervisor Kathryn Barger and Sussy Nemer Novak for joining us. We would like to thank all members of the press who joined us and documented the meeting. We would also like to thank Perfect Equation Catering for providing a delicious meal for the students present at the meeting. Finally, we would like to thank the MPYD community for your encouragement and support in our mission of Changing Lives Through Mentoring and Building Real men!
