Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) District 3 voters elected Tyron Hampton to serve a four year term on the PUSD Board of Education in the April 16 runoff election, according to unofficial results from the Pasadena City Clerk's office. Hampton, a project manager and former Cleveland Elementary, Washington Middle School, and Muir High School student, received 61 percent of the vote in District 3 which includes northwest Pasadena.
"I would like to congratulate Mr. Hampton for winning this hard fought race to represent District 3 on the PUSD Board of Education," said PUSD Superintendent Jon R. Gundry. "It will be helpful to have a PUSD alumnus on the board to provide insight on the student experience in PUSD. I am excited to work with him and the existing board members to provide a 21st century education for all of the students of the district."
The April 16 election results will be declared official at the PUSD Board Organizational Meeting on May 6 where Hampton and re-elected board members Scott Phelps, Kimberly Kenne and Elizabeth Pomeroy will be sworn in and the board will elect its officers for the year. Kenne, who won the election for the new geographic subdistrict Seat 5 in March, will vacate her current at large Board of Education Seat 4 on May 6. The board is already taking applications to fill the soon to be vacant seat.
