CALLING ALL GIRLS! Second Annual AKA Sister Chat Event for High School Girls

Saturday, November 17, 2012

The Pasadena Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. announces the Second Annual Sister Chat Conference for high school teens on Saturday, November 17, 2012 at ASC, 560 E. Mariposa Street, Altadena, CA 91001.

The purpose of the conference is to inspire young ladies, aged 15 – 19, to find value in themselves, learn more about womanhood and relationships from their peers, ask adult women questions of concern, and get information on important topics to help them develop into thriving young women.

The Sorority sponsored its first Sister Chat Conference in November, 2011. A group of young ladies participated in events and activities which included exercises designed for them to give thought about themselves and the women they would like to develop into. They also participated in tasks of selecting appropriate clothing for various occasions and discussing self image and personal style.

The 2012 Sister Chat event will include guest speakers, similar to the 2011 event, with a healthcare professional who will share information on the topics of: health, hygiene, make-up and sex education. They will learn more about the opposite sex in their conversation with a panel of young men who will discuss, "Girls from a Guy's Perspective."

Other topics of interest will be covered such as guidelines on personal values, love, and self respect, social media issues, and the importance of representing their 'Brand' in a positive manner and how certain information shared on these public sites can negatively impact their ability to get into a desired school, get a job, get a loan, earn a scholarship, and more.

The young ladies will also hear about the importance of managing their finances and they will be coached on how to handle physical abuse and bullying situations.

Registration is free and open to young ladies, 15-19 years old. The November 17, 2012, day-long event will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

To register or for more information, contact Ruth Hopkins at 626-798-3972.

Registrations are also online at: www.AKA-ELO.org. (If under 18 years old, a signed Parental/Guardian permission is required.)

Space is limited, so it is recommended to those interested to register now.
