Sports Watching & Wondering

The Boss Threw Me Out! I was sneaking by the Boss's Office, but he saw me and called me in. “Write something exciting this week”, he said. I replied by telling him that there was kind of a lull, and that it was not my fault. Usually, this time of the year the Lakers and sometimes the Clippers are having NBA Playoff Games. However, this year neither team made the Playoffs. However, the Boss was not listening, or did not care to listen to what I was saying. So, I tried to think on my feet, … [Read more...]

Where Did Everyone Go? When you have lived in an area for a long time, you learn to expect that certain things will happen. In Southern California, we expect rain in the winter, and we also expect that the UCLA basketball team will make it to the Sweet 16. We expect that the Lakers and possibly the Clippers will make it to the NBA playoffs. This is how it has been for a long time, and this is what we have grown to expect. Regrettably, that did not happen this year. Both the Bruins and the … [Read more...]

Dr. King Led the United States and the World to a Better Place! Before Dr. King led the Birmingham boycott, the southern part of the United States was legally segregated, and the de facto segregation in the north was more rampant than it is today. However, he persevered with his nonviolent approach to change, and while things are not perfect, they are so … [Read more...]

I am starting this column by congratulating the courageous high school students, especially those from Florida, for the work that they are doing to make this a better and safer world. It is one thing for those who predict the outcomes of the NCAA Basketball Tournaments, and another for the teams to actually win these games. Bracketotology is fun, and it is usually harmless, unless you bet the rent money on the games. Not many people would have predicted that number one Virginia would be upset … [Read more...]

That is Why They Play the Games! The UCLA Bruins were a tad upset that they did not receive a full invitation to the big dance. Because of their lackluster record, they had to play a playin game against St. Bonaventure. They lost, and they had to come home. Everyryone with a computer knew that the University of Virginia, with its number one rating, would easily dispose of the Maryland Baltimore County Retrievers. This tournament always gives hors d’oeuvres to it's highest-ranking … [Read more...]
