The Upper Room is the Third Annual Black History Month Community Tribute, performed by the Ixthus Players of Second Baptist Church Monrovia and sponsored by the City of Duarte. This dramatic sage will be held on Saturday, February, 26, 2011, 4:00 p.m. at the Duarte Performing Arts Center in Duarte, CA.
Set in the 1940's, a storefront church becomes the refuge for Pastor Mary and her congregation. The Upper Room is a sizzling and uplifting melodrama about a passionate female preacher, who leads her congregation with a mixture of charisma and gentle piety. Its about faith and family and the price Pastor Mary is forced to pay when confronted by her congregation. It would be a shame to miss a play this good!
This annual event brings together residents of all races and ages, along with local businesses, organizations and churches to celebrate the rich history of African Americans in our communities and will kick-off the 37th Jubilee for Bishop Wm. LaRue Dillard, Under-Shepherd of Second Baptist Church.
General admission is $20. Children and seniors, $10. Limited VIP ticket seating is $25.
