Description

On Sunday, November 14, 2010, at the Castaways Restaurant in Burbank, California, the Altadena Branch NAACP will hosts its 25th Anniversary Freedom Fund Luncheon.

The event comes on the heals of two major milestones in the history of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, (NAACP). The Centennial Celebration of the National Association in 2009 and the 100th Anniversary of the Crisis Magazine, the official publication and media arm of the NAACP since its founding.

The Anniversary theme, "Celebrating 25 Years of Community Partnerships," was chosen to acknowledge the contribution of sponsors, volunteers, members, and friends to whom we attribute the success of the Altadena Branch over the past 25 plus years. "History, and those who help make it, is something we value," states Altadena Branch President, Barbara Bigby. "Our 93-year old President Emeritus, Tony Stewart, still active and attending meeting until a serious illness recently, as well as other committed volunteers help us live up to our Branch slogan, 'Making the Difference in our Community'."

In keeping with the Branch Education Platform, "Advocates for Excellence in education," Principals in the Pasadena Unified School District, and the 2009-2010 past President, Lisa Sugimoto, of the Pasadena City College will be recognized. The Branch Founding Members and Past Presidents will also be acknowledged. The event is a celebration of all who support the Altadena Branch, the NAACP, and any other organization that advocates on behalf of issues that challenge our communities, and country our today.

Organizers have planned an afternoon filled with good food, entertainment, and time to socialize with old friends. Mark your calendars, save the date, and plan to attend. Your presence will help make this the memorable occasion we envision. The cost is $100 per person.
