The public can watch the competition for free starting at 1 p.m.
"The contest started six years ago as friendly competition among those working out with weights at Villa-Parke Community Center and continues to grow more competitive each year," said Bill Davis, recreation coordinator.
Last year's bench press winner in the super-heavyweight division was Ricky Pickens, pressing 550 pounds.
The competition is sponsored by Max Muscle, Juice It Up! and the city of Pasadena Human Services and Recreation Department.
The event welcomes male and female competitors ages 18 and over in five weight categories, with corresponding minimum starting lifts:
Super-Heavyweight (236 lbs. and above), 365 lbs.
This year, four students—one each from Pasadena, Blair, Marshall and Duarte high schools—were selected to compete in the under-18 division.
Applications for the over 18 division are available at the Villa Parke, 363 E. Villa Street. Cost to compete is $10 per person for adults.
