Sloan Stephens won the U. S. Tennis Association Championship this past week, adding her name to Althea Gibson, who won the U. S. Nationals in 1957and the William Sisters, Serena and Venus, tennis champions.
The other Black women heros are Jemele Hill and Maria Chappelle-Nadal. Chappelle-Nadal drew the ire of Donald Trump when she called him a racist. Chappelle-Nadal a columnist for the sports cable channel. She used her column to call the trash talking, lying President a racist. Trump’s press secretary said she has to apologize and should be ﬁ red for calling Trump a racist.
It is noted that Rush Limbaugh suggested that Trump was ignorant for his recent agreement with Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer on DACA and for waiting on building the wall. Will Limbaugh have to apologize? National writers point out that Trump has called President Barack a racist and a number of other names and has yet to apologize for his actions. They also point out that Nadal was merely using her Constitutional ﬁrst Amendment right to speech. As a columnist that is what she was hired to do, it’s funny to see some people who get into politics who can’t take criticism.
These guys will lie without thinking about it and yet they don’t think other people have a right to even tell the truth. They often lose something of value to them after getting apparent partial wins. Dr. King, quoting William Bryant, said “Truth crushed to earth shall rise again”.
This year there was a meeting of the six Black Female Police Chiefs in the state of North Carolina. California had two Black female Chiefs, one in Oxnard and one in Santa Monica who recently resigned after 30 years on the force.
A Black woman lawyer, formerly with the Federal Justice Department, analyzed the shooting and killing of the young Black man in St. Louis, Missouri differently than the judge who found that no crime was committed. The police ofﬁcer, Ofﬁcer Jason Stockley, made a statement that he would kill him, before he killed him with ﬁve shots. The young man had no gun. The cop’s DNA was found on the gun he allegedly found on the deceased young man. The young man’s DNA was not found on the gun. A rock concert by U-Tube scheduled for the city was cancelled as part of the protestors’ objection and plan to disrupt the economy. The ofﬁcer was found not guilty, even though he brought an AK 47 assault riﬂe to the shooting.
This not guilty verdict was consistent with the idea that the President has said the cops should be more violent with those who are being arrested. It is also consistent with Attorney General Sessions’ plan to go hard on so-called crime and law and order, reﬂects on the spectacle of the President’s pardon of Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio for his crimes against Mexican Americans.
