Angels with Smudges

(Inspired by the many Mike Browns of the world)

All law-abiding adults alive today
Can recall there was a season
Their youth was sprinkled with bad decisions
And to commonsense it was treason

No one is perfect, mistakes are made
But some mistakes cause fatal harm
Know that prior to a male reaching 25 years old
His young brain is not fully formed

Parents have plans for their young angels
Not in the gutter as a discarded cigarette
Yes, young angels have smudges
But God's not finished with them yet

The foolishness of the world in a youth
Metamorphic into greatness as he matures
No ones goes through life smudge-free
Young angels are drawn by high risk lures

Presidents, kings, men small and great
All have gone through dirt and grime
We all have spots and blemishes
Our past knew us during another time

Mike Brown was shot down today
Before he departed his Wild Oats Trail
But God knew his heart and destiny
Thus his soul is not fuel for hell

It is incumbent on the genocide survivors
To teach death may come suddenly and swift
Every black male must have wise survival skills
Given to him as a spiritual gift
