It seems that we will never get out of the effects of racism, and Donald Trump is making sure that we don’t forget that we need to be ever vigilant to racism and white supremacy. This week Trump attacked African American Congresswoman Frederica Wilson, representing Florida. Trump in his racist dialogue called her Wacky.
Her response was a ladylike one saying he doesn’t want to know what nickname she would give him. Congresswoman Wilson also said she was tired of hearing him give people nicknames. I agree with her and of course the Republicans agree with Trump. They are afraid of doing anything else. Let’s see what happens when Trump puts up his next bill!
The thing that caused the thin skinned, crap talking, President to tweet off his rocker was a video the Congresswoman showed of General Kelly lying on her as she dedicated a building in her jurisdiction. This comes as Trump was called a moron by Secretary of State Tillerson, while many people are questioning his sanity and looking at the 25th Amendment to get Trump out of office before he gets us into a war.
Trump’s actions gave credibility to speeches by former Presidents Barack Obama and George Bush. One of them said in his speech this weekend, in effect, that Racists don’t need their hoods or masks hiding their faces, under this president. Bush said that “Bigotry and White Supremacy are blasphemy against the American creed.“
General Kelly joined with Trump with his name-calling tirade saying Congresswoman Wilson was like a “voice in a barrel”. The truth is that she told the truth and showed a video of her speech to prove it. Therefore, both Donald Trump and his chief of staff, General Kelly, lied.
Kelly went on to say he “was stunned that a member of Congress listened in on a sacred conversation.” Trump said it was a secret conversation and implied the Congresswoman eavesdropped. Not so. The Congresswoman had been a mentor for Sergeant Johnson and was riding in the limousine with the family when Trump was on the speakerphone. There was no private conversation with the Johnson family and General Kelly was still with Trump when he called the Johnson Limousine. Why was he listening to Donald Trump’s conversation? Another lie. Maybe he was taking lying lessons from the master liar, Donald Trump. Maybe they need to change the name of his famous book from “The Art of the Deal” to “The Art of Lying.”
It is unfortunate that we must spend our time talking about Trump’s lies, but we must defend our Black women and men from defamatory lies by those who have the media and others listening to them. This is because the defamatory statements are believed by nearly 50 % of Americans and by some judges. Remember if Trump’s mouth is moving, he is probably lying.
We must continue to remain vigilant of the enemies to our progress to voting, criminal justice, and employment equality, while continuing to keep our eyes on progress in education and employment. Congresswoman Frederica Wilson from Florida had a career as an educator and principal before Congress. We should encourage our young people to follow her pattern. Get their career in order, then run for public service to help the masses. Don’t get it twisted. Education, first, then Career, in that order. Then help the rest of us.
Young people, if you need another example, look at the guy named Barack Obama. He was educated, became a lawyer, a community organizer, a Senator, then President of the United States. Now, that’s an example to follow. Remember, “jobs not jail”. Who needs gangs, drugs, addiction, begging, homelessness and shopping cart living. Instead, seek four years of college. Then you are somebody that can help us. Sit down write the plan and go to work on it. It took me seventeen years from deciding I wanted to be a lawyer to becoming one. I never gave up, and don’t you give up either. Please don’t choose the shopping cart!
