Pasadena Showcase House for the Arts (PSHA) Launches Commemorative 50th Anniversary Book at Gala Event

A walk down a red carpet, decorative torches glowing in the crisp November night, freshly cooked gourmet food, live music and dancing, and era-themed signature cocktails. This is what over 225 guests experienced as they attended Pasadena Showcase House for the Arts (PSHA) festive party generously hosted by Snyder Diamond and held at their Pasadena showroom. The reason for all the hoopla was to launch the pre-sale of PSHA's commemorative anniversary book, 50 Years of Pasadena Showcase Design Houses.

Fran Biles, Book Committee Chair, commented, "I have had the privilege of working with five decades of Pasadena Showcase Chairs and Designers searching through the archives to find the best pictures of the 50 years of Showcase design and houses. Tonight we have the pleasure of sharing some of our forthcoming book at a fabulous party at Snyder Diamond! Everyone is excited about this beautiful history of architecture and design in Pasadena."

Russ Diamond, host and President of Snyder Diamond spoke about the relationship with PSHA, "We have a symbiotic relationship with PSHA. As a company, we've been in the market place 40 years and in business for 65 years. We cherish our relationship with the entire design and architectural community and are proud to be problem solvers and solution providers for the kitchen and bath industry." As Snyder Diamond celebrates 65 years in business, PSHA is celebrating 65 years of volunteerism.

PSHA President, Donna Gotch, happily shared her thoughts, "Tonight we celebrate 50 years of exceptional design by those who have participated in the Pasadena Showcase House of Design and the dedication of our PSHA volunteers who are members of the 50th Anniversary Book Committee. The book will serve as a great tribute to all who have participated in our annual benefit as well as serve as a tribute to the historically significant architecture of the San Gabriel Valley."

Guests included esteemed designers who have been involved with Pasadena Showcase House since the first one opened in Spring 1965. While viewing a preview of photos for the book, one of the earliest designers, Jerry Shimer, reminisced about the "moon mural" he created for a young boy's bedroom for Showcase House 1970, "It was right after Armstrong walked on the moon." Shimer was thrilled "to have several photos of his work in the anniversary book."

Karina Oldemans, Interior Designer, shared these sentiments "My warmest congratulations to Pasadena Showcase House for the Arts and all their members for successfully promoting the arts for 50 years through music education and interior design through the Pasadena Showcase House of Design. What better way to compile this success than to emphasize the talent and the hard work of the Committee and the Interior Designers in the book 50 Years of Pasadena Showcase Design Houses. It beautifully illustrates the high quality of interior design seen at Showcase Houses over the years. It has been a great pleasure and honor to participate in PSHA as an interior designer since 1990. I owe my success as a designer in great part to the opportunity PSHA has given me to showcase my work. Thank you and congratulations!"

The 2014 Pasadena Showcase House of Design will be open to the public Sunday, April 13 through Sunday, May 11. For more information about PSHA or the Pasadena Showcase House of Design, please visit www.PasadenaShowcase.org.

This is a milestone year for PSHA as it celebrates 65 years of volunteerism, the 50th Anniversary of the Pasadena Showcase House of Design and, since 1948, the generous awarding of over $19 million in gifts and grants in support of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Walt Disney Concert Hall, numerous non-profit organizations and local symphonic, cultural and educational musically-oriented programs for youth and young adults.

An all-volunteer organization, Pasadena Showcase House for the Arts (PSHA) is a non-profit California Corporation whose members donate their time and talents to produce the annual Pasadena Showcase House of Design. Founded in 1948, and formerly known as The Pasadena Junior Philharmonic Committee, PSHA adopted the Pasadena Showcase House of Design as its annual benefit in 1965. It is one of the oldest, largest and most successful house and garden tours in the nation.

PSHA volunteers are united by their belief in the power and beauty of music. Their collective desire is to fund programs that nurture the study and appreciation of music, utilize music as a vehicle towards health and healing, and ensure that music is available to a broad range of audiences.
