Above are students from Edison Elementary who participated in the "Why I Think I'm Special" essay contest in June of 2005. Pictured are 6th Graders, from l-r: Omar Cortes, Ryane Tayler Harper, Principal Mr. Thomas Washington, Courtney Lewis, Latasha Jones and Perla Lopez. Not shown is Scarlett Hernandez.
The Dakar Foundation wants to locate each of these students. We have located one student, Courtney Lewis. As a consequence, she and her guest joined our table at the last Mentoring & Partnering for Youth Development luncheon. We would like to extend an invitation to the other students, as well.
The Dakar Foundation was established in 1992 by filmmaker John Singleton to reach overlooked children and reinforce their educational goals while building and maintaining self esteem.
