First Congregational Church of Los Angeles Hosts Annual "Christmas For Commonwealth" Gift Drive for Local Elementary School

Los Angeles, CA - December 3, 2012 - This holiday season, the First Congregational Church of Los Angeles is continuing with its annual commitment to the common good for the students of Commonwealth Elementary School when it hosts its annual gift drive, "Christmas For Commonwealth," sponsored by First Church's Outreach Committee.

Congregants and church leaders are each currently picking one of 150 names of students from a tree located in First Church's historic Gothic cathedral. The names correspond to a list of gifts that will be purchased and eventually delivered to the students following a wrap party to take place on Sunday, December 9th.

"Christmas For Commonwealth" marks the annual holiday outreach to the First Church's local community, and its commitment to making the local neighborhood a great place for children and their families. First Church also organizes an annual Fall school supply drive to provide Commonwealth Elementary School students with supplies at the start of the school year.

ABOUT FIRST CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH OF LOS ANGELES:  First Congregational Church of Los Angeles is the oldest continuously operating Protestant church in the city of Los Angeles, having been established in the parlor of Amanda and John Scott in July of 1867. Throughout its long history, the organization has played a vital part in the city, both spiritually and culturally. Enjoying a renaissance since the arrival of Senior Minister Dr. R. Scott Colglazier in 2008, First Church is committed to being a place of inclusion and welcome, and recently became the official home to both the Gay Men's Chorus of Los Angeles, as well as Vox Femina of Los Angeles. Additionally, the congregation's strong sense of outreach means that it works beyond its campus and into the community, partnering with such organizations as Commonwealth Elementary School, P.A.W.S. LA, Downtown Women's Center, Hope-Net, Union Rescue Mission, and more. More information can be found at www.FCCLA.org.
