Getting Tested is FREE!

Black news from Pasadena - Community - Fifth Annual Health Summit - Lucious Smith and moreOn Saturday, September 22, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., the Fifth Annual Health Summit will be held at the Jackie Robinson Community Center, 1020 N. Fair Oaks Blvd in Pasadena, CA. The event is focused on providing FREE tests and screenings for a variety of diseases that impact our community. Some of the FREE services to be offered are Mammograms, HIV Tests, Dental Screenings, Kidney Disease Screenings, Eye Tests, Mental Health Screenings, Diabetes Screenings and much more.

This event is in the Northwest community of Pasadena in order to make it convenient for members of this community to attend and take advantage of these services. Access to testing is the difference between living and not with many diseases. The earlier the disease is detected, the sooner treatment can begin, and thus increase the probability and opportunity for diseases to be stopped in their tracks. It is not by mistake that Blacks and Latinos tend to have the highest death rates for many diseases like heart disease, diabetes and cancer. This statistic exists because people don't go to the doctor on a regular basis to get tested. By the time these diseases are discovered, the damage is great and many times it's too late for treatment to make a difference. Early detection and treatment for diseases that plague our community is the difference between life and death!

In order to impact this problem and make a difference, this event provides FREE testing for many of these diseases. All you need to do is come out and take advantage of the services. While there, learn more about heart disease, nutrition, healthy cooking, mental health, Eastern medicine alternatives, and more. Do you have health questions that you've always wanted to ask your doctor, but didn't? Come to the Health Summit where Pharmacists will be on hand to answer your questions!

Bring the whole family to this event that has something for everyone – Kidz Zone, Raffle Prizes, Line Dancing (12:30 p.m.), a workout routine for all ages (10:15 AM), and much more. Hear Pastor Lucious Smith from Friendship Baptist Church at 11:00 a.m. speaking on 'Healthy Mind, Healthy Body, Healthy Soul.'
