“Americafest 2009” Presented by XBOX 360

Pasadena's 4th of July celebration in the Rose Bowl has kept local residents' Star Spangled spirit flying for 83 years. This year, Americafest presented by XBOX 360, combines a safe and entertaining family activity and a most patriotic tribute to our American heritage with the biggest and best fireworks show in Southern California.

The parking lots open at 8 o'clock in the morning for families to set up their picnics. The Family Fun Festival, food and fun court activities open at 2 pm on the grass area in front of the Rose Bowl. A XBOX 360 Pavilion will be the centerpiece of the festival featuring hands on opportunities for kids of all ages to show their skill and experience the fun. McDonalds McCafe will be sampling their products along with demonstrations by the US Army and Marine Corps. Kids will enjoy a variety of bounce houses and there will be plenty of food and exhibits for the whole family. Admission to the Fun Zone area is free. Vendors charge for food, drinks, rides, etc.

Paul Magers, CBS 2 news anchor hosts the show beginning at 6:50 pm inside the stadium with a US Air Force flyover and Pasadena Fire Department Color Guard accompanying the National Anthem. For the second year, Drum Corps International (DCI), Marching Music's Major LeaguesTM, with five of the nation's best Drum Corps units will perform their field shows and music with amazing precision. This year's participants will be The Mandarins from Sacramento, California, The Academy from Tempe, Arizona, Pacific Crest from Diamond Bar, California, The Bluecoats from Canton, Ohio, and The Blue Devils from Concord, California.

Drum Corps International has developed into a powerful, non-profit, global youth activity with far reaching artistic, educational and organizational influence. Their message of "excellence in performance and in life" has been delivered to more than 7.2 million young people from more than 15 countries, ages 13-22 involved in performing arts in the United States. Each summer some 400,000 people attend live Drum Corps events.

Following DCI's performances the night will erupt with a world-class fireworks show that will thrill and delight families from throughout Southern California. Fireworks show producers, Pyro Spectaculars by Souza, has become known as the "Fireworks Ambassadors to the World" by developing revolutionary choreography methods and precisely firing fireworks to music at the biggest events around the globe.

As it celebrates the American Spirit of Freedom, the Rose Bowl will honor the men and women who have served and are actively serving in the Armed Forces, at home and around the world. Veterans and active military organizations will be on hand to exhibit and demonstrate their services. There will be a military flyover, and a tribute to the men and women from the surrounding communities who have given their lives defending America's freedom in the Middle East.
Members of the active military and their families will be admitted free by showing their current military identification at Rose Bowl Gate B the day of the event.
