Humble Beginnings

For some, the hardest thing about being fit is getting started. We set start dates and goals, and buy gym memberships, exercise equipment and apparel; carve out the time of the day when we'll do our fitness routine, and sometime all this isn't enough to get us off our duffs and into a place of reformed life style. Why is this?

I'll submit that a huge part of the problem is that we've forgotten a very important aspect for how a Christian is supposed to bring about change in his life, and that is through the application of humility. Naaman was a great and victorious commander of the kings army by way of God's assistance with his battles... But Naaman could not be healed of his battle with a health issue (leprosy), until he humbled himself and did according to what God had instructed him to do, via Elisha. 2 Kings 1-14. If you are struggling with your desire to get started on the road to a fitter you. Ask yourself a question - Am I getting in my own way? Am I wanting to do this thing by way of what feels right to me and by what is within my personal comfort zone to do? An honest answer of yes is good news! For you then have revealed for yourself the prospect of getting God's help with your challenge. Let us not forget that the opposite of humility is pride and that God resists pride and hates its effect on our lives.

To be the recipient of a successful start to a Godly, Bible-based lifestyle of fitness (and all other areas of life) we must turn from what we know and feel about the subject, by turning to what God knows and has instructed by way of his all knowing design for how these things get done. Remember always that Jesus humbled himself unto death, to get done what God had designed for him to do... And one of those things was to make it possible for you and I to be Spiritually, Mentally and Physically Fit. This is accomplished by simply following His instructions for overcoming what is sometimes our greatest obstacle to victory in these areas - ourselves.

Well that's all my time for this time; if this subject interests you, please join me next time when I'll share more regarding the awesome benefits of getting and being fit, God's way!
